There is a meeting for all those interested in discussing possible uses of,
and developing an action plan for- Pleasant Valley Park. The composition of
the Murrysville Council will be changing, and we can probably expect the
fate of PV Park to come before that body again sometime in the not so
distant future. It would be very nice to have this park being used and
enjoyed at that time.
This meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, April 27 at 6:30pm in the conference
room outside the library. Hopefully members of SLAM, the Murrysville
Environmental Advisory Council, FORM, the Westmoreland Conservancy, boy
scouting, the school, the garden club, and any other interested individuals
will be in attendance. Please spread the word to people who you think may
want to take part.
Come join the brain storming fun and see what wonderful ideas we can come up
with for this beautiful, large tract of land!
Annual Meeting and Elections

Saturday, May 8th: Spring Migration Outing.
If you're looking for something fun, perhaps even educational, here's something to consider. Crane Creek, a bird refuge and wildlife sanctuary near Sandusky, Ohio, is a wonderful place to see all kinds of birds as they travel through their migratory routes OR make their homes within McGee Marshes. If you're interested in joining a group to bird-watch or take pictures, contact Shelly Tichy at 724-325-5523 or e-mail at baghera@adelphia.net. We can either head up the evening before, plan to leave Murrysville by 3 AM, or pass along maps and meet there.

Our guest speaker is Dr. Walter Carson. Dr. Carson is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh. He received his Ph.D. from Cornell University in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology in 1993 and was subsequently a Postdoctoral Associate at Princeton University prior to coming to the University of Pittsburgh in 1994. He is a plant ecologist with active and extensive research underway in tall grass prairie in Minnesota, the Allegheny National Forest, the Monongahela National Forest, and tropical forests in Panama and Costa Rica. He has served on numerous scientific panels in Washington DC for the EPA, the National Science Foundation, and the US Forest Service. His work, and that of many of his colleagues, demonstrates that overbrowsing by large populations of deer is the single greatest threat to the health, sustainability, and biodiversity of forests throughout much of Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
Please join us for a wonderful evening of great food, great talk and great company!!

Murrysville Community Day 2004 Summer Celebration. We will be in
attendance with much the same theme as last year, including perennial
favorites, the trees and snakes!
The Hometown Photo Contest held last year was quite a success! This year, we have decided to call this event the Vernon Bachelder Hometown Photography Show, in memory of a talented artist who taught many to see and share wonders through the lens of a camera. We are encouraging you to send us 5"x7" or 8"x10" reprints of one or two of your favorite original photos celebrating Community and/or Nature. (No photoshop magic, please.) Subjects: Murrysville & surrounding communities. Student or Adult categories: nature/wildlife/garden or family/community/pets. We will have them on display Saturday, September 18th in our booth. The general public will be voting for their favorite. Ribbons will be awarded at 3pm. Come in early to cast your vote. Send your photos to: The Westmoreland Conservancy P.O. Box 446, Murrysville, PA 15668, and make sure your name, age, address and photo title are enclosed.
