Westmoreland Conservancy Reserves have taken heavy damage from the series of storms beginning in late April and continuing through this summer. The Don Harrison Community Trail was particularly hard-hit and we are STILL working to reopen the trail by November. Interested in helping out? Let us know at: contact@westmorelandconservancy.org

OptOutside Hike Along the Don Harrison Community Trail 11/28

Opt out of the shopping madness and choose to spend
some time outside with us this “Black Friday”! The Don Harrison Community Trail will have a somewhat altered appearance this year due to the tremendous impact of the April and May storms.
Our team has worked diligently to make ALL of our trails safe following the destruction, and we’re happy to say that we’re ready to go!
The trail is about 4.5 miles from the Municipal lot to the Walter Reserve lot on Weistertown Rd. We recommend whenever possible to use 2 vehicles per group in order to leave one at the lot where you want to conclude (Walter, or Caywood on Hills Church Rd) and still meet with the group at the Municipal lot. We will head out at 11AM.

Winter Solstice Walk
at the
Morosini Reserve
12/21 at 4:30PM

12/21 Winter Solstice Walk at the Morosini Reserve: Park at the upper lot at the end of Morosini Farm Road. Winter officially arrives at 10:03AM.
We’ll leave the UPT kiosk at 4:30PM, working our way around the
trails to watch the sun set, around 4:55PM, from our observation
platform in the eastern field! Please register: http://www.westmorelandconservancy.org/event-registration

Westmoreland Conservancy protects land and wildlife habitat. We make nature available so that people of all ages and abilities may benefit from the experience.
The Universal Pedestrian Trail (UPT) at the Morosini Reserve was in need of repair. This is necessary to continue to allow those with wheelchairs, walkers and strollers to enjoy these amenities. We also extended the surface by another 400’. We hope that the improvements make the trail that much more enjoyable for those that require the amenities.
Your support is always appreciated. We are your local land trust, part of your community, working to make our world a bit better for everyone.

Birdwatching
at the
Morosini Reserve

There is always an incredible variety of birds to observe at the Morosini Reserve.
Why?
Because the 183-acre reserve boasts diverse habitat areas. You'll experience a shaded pond, dense woodlands, open fields, and edge habitat all within a 30-minute walk. if you take your time and observe closely, you'll see and hear all SORTS of birds, both migratory and local residents!
One never tires of seeing a beautiful cardinal or bluebird, but an indigo bunting, yellowthroat or cedar waxwing is an exciting rush!
As always, you are invited to enjoy the reserve even without a guided event. Just please, leave no trace.

Westmoreland Conservancy is an all-volunteer, private 501(c) 3 non-profit organization committed to conservation. We are not affiliated with the Municipality of Murrysville, nor with Westmoreland County Government.
We do not receive taxpayer monies. Our organization is funded by our donors.
Hot Chocolate Hike with Murrysville Recreation Dept at the Morosini Reserve Friday, 1/16/2026

Hike at the Morosini Reserve with Murrysville Recreation. We’ll be
leaving the Universal Pedestrian Trail parking lot at the end of Morosini Farm Court at 10AM to hike up the UPT to the pond and around the connected trails. We can see what birds might
overwinter locally. This reserve is a favorite stopover for
migrating birds and local residents alike, so there should be
plenty of activity in the branches.
We’ll enjoy some hot chocolate back at the parking lot!
