  PV Park
The Westmoreland Conservancy has voted recently to join other organizations in Murrysville to support minimum development of Pleasant Valley Park for passive recreation uses (hiking, mountain biking, camping, etc). The Conservancy will be contributing $500 towards the development of a parking lot along Pleasant Valley road. A collective committee has been meeting regularly to put forward this goal. The committee is comprised of members of The Westmoreland Conservancy, SLAM, the Murrysville Environmental Advisory Council, FORM, Boy Scouting, the school, the garden club, etc, as well as individual members of the community. Meetings have also been held with the Municipality of Murrysville to discuss opening up the park, as well as leveraging money held by the Municipality which is earmarked for the development of this park. The hope is to move forward immediately.

   Community Day
The Westmoreland Conservancy we will participate in two community day celebrations in September. This year for the first time we will be at the Washington Township Fort Hand Festival at Kunkle Park on Saturday, September 11th. Click Here for a MAP!

Then on Saturday, September 18th, again we will be at the Murrysville Community Day, this year being held at the Municiple Complex.

The Hometown Photo Contest held last year was quite a success! This year, we have decided to call this event the Vernon Bachelder Hometown Photography Show, in memory of a talented artist who taught many to see and share wonders through the lens of a camera. We are encouraging you to send us 5"x7" or 8"x10" reprints of one or two of your favorite original photos celebrating Community and/or Nature. (No photoshop magic, please.) Subjects: Murrysville & surrounding communities. Student or Adult categories: nature/wildlife/garden or family/community/pets. We will have them on display Saturday, September 18th in our booth. The general public will be voting for their favorite. Ribbons will be awarded at 3pm. Come in early to cast your vote. Send your photos to: The Westmoreland Conservancy P.O. Box 446, Murrysville, PA 15668, and make sure your name, age, address and photo title are enclosed.

Boy Scout project at Potter's Corner
The bridge over Potter's Corner has been repaired and is now complete! It was built by Scott Ackmann and members of Boy Scout Troop 206 for his eagle scout project. The bridge spans Pearson's Creek which runs through the King Nature Reserve and Potter's Corner. Here are some of the pictures of their efforts; pictured with the boy scouts is Mount Fitzpatrick (click for larger images)
