A land trust is a local organization that conserves land of special value to the community, such as land that contributes to the region's quality of life because of its scenic, recreational, environmental, historical, or cultural qualities.
Western Pennsylvania Conservancy
The Western Pennsylvania Conservancy's mission is to enrich the human relationship
with the natural world by saving the places we care
about. They have conserved some of the region's places of exceptional ecological,
recreational and scenic value; places such as Fallingwater
near Ohiopyle.
Westmoreland Conservation
District
The Westmoreland Conservation District is dedicated to the conservation,
restoration, and proper use of our natural resources. Functioning as a
unit of government, the directors and their associates commit themselves
to the leadership and service required in pursuing activities beneficial
to the environment.
Turtle Creek Watershed Association
The TCWA has worked
since 1971 to address watershed issues and improve water quality in the
147-square-mile area of eastern Allegheny and northern Westmoreland counties
drained by Turtle Creek in this densely populated area.
The TCWA has also become involved with projects which address
recreation, environmental education, and natural resources conservation
throughout the watershed.
Great Allegheny Passage
We're the Allegheny Trail Alliance, a coalition of seven rails
to trails organizations building the Great Allegheny Passage,
a 150 mile biking and hiking trail connecting Cumberland, MD
and Pittsburgh, PA with a 52 mile branch to the Pittsburgh
International Airport. At Cumberland we link to the C & O
Canal Towpath, creating a continuous ride to Washington, DC.

Westmoreland County History Project
The History Project is committed to the transcription of the History of Westmoreland County that was written in 1906 by John N. Boucher & John W. Jordan. This is a three volume set of nearly 2000 pages which contain the early history of the county as well as a large number of biographical sketches.
