|
The Westmoreland Conservancy volunteers want to thank all who contributed, in one way or another to Conservation Connection at the Zoo! We all had a fantastic opportunity for conservation-minded people (including the public at large) and organizations throughout the greater Pittsburgh region to meet and to share ideas and information. --Slide Show-- A Special Thanks to Our SPONSORS: $1000.00 - $2000.00
Thanks also to the following: Speakers Davitt Woodwell: Davitt Woodwell is Vice President of the Pennsylvania Environmental Council (PEC), a leading force in land and water conservation across the Commonwealth. He will give an overview of conservation in SW PA, speak about the potential for cooperation and collaboration, and give his thoughts about where conservation is going.
A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, School of Law, Mr. Woodwell
is currently a member of the board of the Steel Industry Heritage Corporation.
He participated in the Department of Environmental Protection's regulatory
negotiation on the special protection waters program and served on the
Pittsburgh Ozone Stakeholder Working Group and subsequent negotiations
on regulating air pollution. He also served on the Allegheny County
Air Pollution Control Advisory Committee. Mr. Woodwell was appointed
by Governor Ridge to serve on the Governor's Commission on Greenways. Jeremy Smith:
Jeremy Smith is the director of Development and Communications at Riverlife
Task Force. Riverlife is the driving force developing and implementing
a master plan for use of the region's most valuable asset. Their
vision: "Three Rivers Park" on the banks of the 3 rivers, making a circuit of 14
miles. That project is interesting because it involves flood control,
brownfield reclamation, ecological restoration, dev. of recreational
amenities, restoration of fish populations, along with much attention
to aesthetics of the rivers Margie Marks: Margie
Marks, currently the Curator of Conservation Education at the Pittsburgh
Zoo & PPG Aquarium, began her career as an animal keeper. She has
worked in most of the departments of the Zoo, including elephants, large
cats and bears. Now she oversees the conservation education department,
managing over 30 different programs which serve over 300,000 participants.
Margie has a BS in Zoology from the University of Maryland and a Master's
of Education from Duquesne University. Silent Auction Items 1) Set of 4
